Ally Sloper’s Half-Holiday. London: The Sloperies [Gilbert Dalziel]. Vol. 23, no. 1167. 1 September 1906.

“Tasty Togs at Tenby”, signed W. F. Thomas. From June to September 1906, the Ally Sloper cartoons present his annual Seaside Tour of the well-known resorts on Britain’s coasts. Here, at Tenby (Wales), we find him chatting to the local beauties, as a watchful policeman brandishes his notebook. Despite his bathing costume, Ally still carries his furled umbrella, gin-bottle and battered hat. When he finally returns to London from his tour (Ally Sloper’s Half-Holiday, 29 September 1906), he finds he has been evicted from his home, the Mildeweries in Battersea, for “forgetting” – yet again – to pay the rent.
