In the midst of the war, a new tramp emerged to take over the front page of The Funny Wonder, thereby greatly boosting its sales (Gifford 1972: cover):Charlie Chaplin’s screen persona as “the little tramp” first appeared on 7 August 1915. The full series ran in The Funny Wonder and its follow-on comic The Wonder up to 13 May 1944, drawn for these thirty years by Albert Thacker (Bertie) Brown. See also H6 and H7.
